Before I talk about this week's picture, I just want to say that I will be attending PAX East this weekend. PAX East is a game convention hosted by the crew behind the popular web comic Penny Arcade, featuring a showroom of upcoming and recently-released video games, various presentations from people related to games (developers, players, archivers, even Internet personalities like the Runaway Guys), and various rooms where people can play video games and talk about them. I am pretty stoked about this. (If only I could use my Keldeo against the PAX Pokemon League...) Meet me up there Friday or Sunday if you want to hang out.
Now with that out of the way, by now I have posted and talked a bit about Sakura Miyazaki, one of the main characters of this "Lucids" series. I have yet to show off some of the other characters I have in mind, though, so this week, I want to give you a proper introduction to the male lead of the series: Ken "Thunder".
17-year-old Ken is a highly-celebrated member of the Subcon Academy branch of the Dream Police, the organization that preserves the stability of the Dream Dimension. He is the grandson of Jason "Thunder", a famous and powerful Lucid that been bestowed the title of "Morpheus", essentially a King of Dreams. Ken tries to live up to his grandfather's legacy by adopting armor and electric abilities similar to his grandfather's. Although Ken has carved a name for himself by tackling some rather dangerous Dream Pirates, and despite how much he loves being part of the Dream Police, Ken is not quite as powerful a Lucid as his grandfather, and those close to him doubt that he ever could be.
Ken's weapon is the Caliber, a sword that can also morph into other weapons like a spear or a racquet. Ken also shoots lightning out of his left hand on a vocal command as a "magical" form of attack. The way he holds his hand changes how the lightning bursts out. Some of the electric pulses he releases may also bestow magnetic properties to objects or manipulate electrical appliances. He has been known to shoot his own sword to deliver a powerful aerial strike with it.
This was a drawing of Ken that I made late this past December. As I mentioned last week, I wanted to try to theme the main Lucids under a certain color scheme, like how Sakura's main color is red. Ken's main color is green, and he establishes that as his favorite color (which is why he told Sakura that he likes her eyes when he first met her). Here, I tried to accent the green with gold decoration and orange hair, and I made the rest of his "mail" a light gray (meant to be white). Although he is meant to resemble a knight or a swordsman, I will admit I drew much of the inspiration for the armor from the Mega Man games, most notably the leg guards.
I have gone on far too long about this tonight, so I want to leave you with this thought. Look at Ken, then look at Sakura. Notice something about the colors? :)
